Candle Care
Taking care of your Factory Candle makes it look nicer, last longer, and smell even better! Read these tips and tricks for safely burning your Factory Candle below:
Simple Burning Care
Remove all packaging and place on a heat safe surface within sight before burning (See candle coasters). Keep your wick trimmed to 1/4" and keep the wax pool clean from debris. Do not extinguish your candle until a complete wax pool appears (4 hours). Stop burning when the wick clip is exposed and 1/4" of the wax remains.
Soot & Ash Care
Candle soot is completely normal but it is extremely unsightly! Soot can be caused by large and untrimmed wicks so make sure before every lighting you trim your wick to 1/4". Keep your Factory Candle away from any windows, fans, vents, or drafts and try not to burn longer than 3-4 hours. If excess soot still occurs, try trimming the wick to 1/8". Wipe away excess soot with a small towel.
Tunneling
Candle tunneling is when a lit candle melts through the center of the candle without melting all of the surrounding wax. The flame on the wick creates a vertical tunnel towards the bottom leaving a ledge of solid wax around the sides of the container.
The theory goes, you can melt down the “shelf” of wax with heat from the candle by redirecting that heat BACK to the wax instead of out of the container using tinfoil!
Tunneling occurs when the candle is extinguished before a complete wax pool is able to form. Depending on fragrance and dye, your Factory Candle will take about 4 hours to have a complete wax pool and until then, try not to blow it out. Tunneling usually self-corrects within 2-3 burns.
In severe cases of tunneling, you can melt down the “shelf” of wax with heat from the candle by redirecting that heat back to the wax instead of out of the container using aluminum foil! Before starting, make sure to trim your wick to 1/4".
1. Cover the top of the candle with aluminum foil.
2. Cut an opening on the top roughly 1″ wide, or small enough
that aluminum foil remains above the wax shelf.
3. Carefully light the candle and allow it to burn for 3-4 hours.
